Happy 15th birthday Marisa!!!!
Even though we didnt have an official party, we still had her special bday dinner and then she requested peanut butter rice krispie treats for dessert! Then we watched the premiere of So You Think You Can Dance! Hopefully it was a perfect birthday!!
May 24
Alayna came home sick early on Friday. She had a high fever and ached so much that it was hard for her to move. I rocked her while watching TV for about 7 hours that evening. Brought back many memories of when she was a baby. She is feeling much better today.
Tyler had his final band concert this week. It looks like he will still play the trombone in middle school. He is getting very excited to go in to middle school next year. He also had his end-of-the-year track meet on Monday. Hopefully he will write about all this stuff along with the dodgeball tournament against the Marion Police Officers. He thought that was the coolest thing EVER!
Kayla went on the temple trip to Nauvoo yesterday. She really loved it and even got to visit the fudge shop. Sweet! She was very sick this week along with Marisa and Alayna and missed 2 ½ days of school. So, she is spending the holiday weekend trying to get caught back up.
Marisa turned 15 this week. Happy Birthday Marisa!!! She is counting down the days now until she turns 16 and can date and drive by herself. She chose not to have an actual birthday party but to take the money I would have spent and go shopping instead. We haven’t done our girls shopping day yet but hope to go this weekend. She had her final orchestra concert as well. During it, they did all the awards and Marisa actually lettered her Freshman year! How cool is that?? She also auditioned for and made the top orchestra for next year plus scored a division 1 on her solo and her ensemble (the highest score you can get) Pretty cool!
We have a very busy week ahead. We have the annual ward Memorial Day party. Hopefully we will get to go canoeing. Only 10 days of school left- HALLELUJAH!!! The last day is a Monday though (what idiot approved that??) so it will be a very long day. Then we are hoping to take the whole family to see Night at The Museum 2. Anyone want to come with us??

Top ten events of the week
Top Ten Events of the Week
Kayla Band concert: She did such a great job and it was a good concert, although it was very long! We were stuffed like sardines in the gym so it wasn’t the most comfortable. But we can tell Kayla is getting really good. She made 1st chair on the 2nd row!
Tyler choir concert: Tyler was so fun to watch. He was so animated and you can tell he sure does love to sing.
Tyler Colonial Day: Tyler dressed up and did his presentation at school. Apparently his presentation was hilarious and he loved it.
Tyler sendoff: They had their 5th grade send off on Friday even though there are 3 weeks of school left. They got to play dodgeball against the policeman! He thought that was pretty awesome. Maybe he will post some info about it on his blog.
Father and son campout rained out: So instead that had a big party at the church with pizza, did skits and played dodgeball. Then they came back home to sleep/ Bob was thrilled that he didn’t have to actually camp.
Betcha didn’t know that a brand new gas tank costs over $500! We came out one day and Bob’s gas tank was leaking gas ALL over the garage! It was a huge stinky mess and we almost had to sell our first born to pay for it.
Only 15 days of school left. Not that I am counting…
We have our big Survivor Party tonight. We have some friends coming over for good food and fun. I hope JT wins. Coach is a psycho. I would have been scared he would kill me in my sleep. What a nut!
I have been subbing a lot lately. May seems to be a big subbing month. No luck on a new job. I am beyond frustrated and discouraged.
We think the Lost finale ROCKED!! But how can they leave us hanging like that? Its just rude!

Birthday, Mother's day and a Poofy Shirt
May 10, 2009
I should never be allowed to take a week off of the newsletter. We have WAY too much going on and my memory isn’t fantastic anymore. (My mind used to be like an elephant’s-now I just look like oneJ)
What kind of crap cold is this?
Let’s see…Bob got it first. He got sick Sunday night, then missed work Monday (April 28), Tuesday, part of Wednesday, and Thursday!! And he doesn’t even get sick days with Rockwell anymore so that wasn’t good. He is still fighting it. Then, guess what? I got sick that Thursday night (April 30), was sick my entire personal day I had taken off from work Friday, stayed in bed all Saturday, Sunday and missed school Monday. Amazingly, I am still dealing with the congestion and cough and headed to the dr tomorrow because I think it turned into a yucky infection. Alayna got it too and is finally feeling better and it looks like Tyler has it now. See- we like to share things as a family, that’s what we do.
Les Miserables:
What you can call our family after having this hideous head cold. Just kidding!
Kayla and I went to see the Les Miserables opening night (bob was supposed to go with me but was too sick) . Before that, I went with Marisa to her orchestra dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings. I was worried I would “cramp her style” (I was one of the only parents there) But when she introduced me, she put her arm around me and said “This is my mom. She is my best friend”. Good thing it was dark in there so I could hide the little drips of water coming off my faceJ
Anyway, Kayla and I got AWESOME seats! We were in the middle close to the front and had a perfect view. The show was absolutely fantastic. It was way better than any high school production I have seen. The actors were so talented and the orchestra was incredible!! Marisa loved being a part of the pit orchestra. I will attach some pics and she attached some great pics on her blog. Since no one can see them in the pit, one night they wore all black, another night was “hobo” night, and the last night they all wore pajamas.
Why is it called a Family Fun Night:
Being around hundreds of noisy kids playing games isn’t my idea of fun, but oh well. We went to the Linn Grove Family Fun Night. We got pizza for dinner there and the younger kids got to play some carnival games.
The experience of Shopping with Tyler:
Tyler has Colonial day coming up this week. He has been begging me for weeks to take him shopping to get his costume. I finally took him this week. I told him we would find a better selection at Salvation Army. I took him to the women’s section with the blouses, he was all but trying to hide in with the clothes because of the embarrassment of being seen shopping women’s clothes. I tried to explain that’s the kind of thing they wore back then-puffy shirts. He didn’t believe me. We tried the men’s section and had no luck. He was very irritated. I had to explain that men don’t dress like that now which is why they wont have shirts like that at Walmart- apparently he wasn’t aware of that. We did find a shirt for him to wear, but I guarantee he will never wear it again. He also asked me to sew him a hat. Isn’t that hysterical?? I told him I would make a paper one and he was not amused. Yep, chalk that up to another point for me as “Mother-of-the-year”!
Tennis:
Kayla wrapped up her season this week and had the team pizza party. Marisa keeps going until the end of this month. Hopefully we will get out to play as a family soon.
The Absolutely Perfect Birthday:
I had the best birthday ever. It took careful planning and hard work to ensure it turned out that way. I took the day off of work and I slept until 11:30, which was pure heaven. Then Bob came home and we had lunch together. Then I curled up in my pjs in my warm, comfy, favorite blanket and watched TV shows I had taped for myself-more heaven. I picked up the kids from school and then we went to Fiesta Del Sol for a yummy dinner together and picked out a kick-butt, chocolate, mint ice cream cake at cold stone!! We ate the cake while I opened my presents and guess what? Bob got me a wii-fit! I can hardly wait to try it. The kids already have their “mii’s” and profiles filled out. Then we watched Survivor and Lost. It was a really, relaxing, wonderful day it was absolutely prefect!!
Friday and Saturday:
Friday we mowed the front and back lawn and edged with the trimmer. Then I did 2 weeks of laundry!!!! (I was so sick last weekend and none of the laundry was done). We also deep cleaned the house.
Saturday we put mulch around the front tree, all the apple trees and grape plants, and in between the garden boxes. We planted everything but the green peppers. We finished up the area by the strawberries (the ones we didn’t plant the minute they arrived died!) Then we planted corn in the back and trimmed the back yard. We also pulled the weeds around the yard and around my tulips (about 4 hours of total work). Then we had to do the grocery shopping. Whew! We really need another day off on the weekends. Trying to cram all our stuff to do on Saturday doesn’t work so well.
Happy Mother’s Day:
Mine has not been so wonderful. If you have seen the mothers day clip of the boys taking a picture for their mom, you have an idea of how the day has been for me. Bob has been trying to make it good though- bought me beautiful pink petunias yesterday (as a hanging plant) and did the dishes after dinner. He pretty much rocks. Now that things have calmed down, Kayla is making me some chocolate mint brownies that I am looking forward too. A special happy Mother’s Day to all you mom’s out there!!

Kayla band concert
