Prom, Blind Mice, and Turning 41 with Conga Drums!
Prom, Blind Mice, and Turning 41 with Conga Drums!
Senior Prom
Marisa went to prom with Thomas last night! They were such a stunning couple!! It took her practically all day to get ready. We took pictures of them here, at Thomas’s house, and at this beautiful garden place with a gazebo. They went to dinner, prom, and the after prom party and got home at 4:30. Glad I didn’t have to stay up! I will post most of the pics on a separate post.
Happy Birthday to Me!!!
My girls talked me into taking the day off from work and I am so glad I did! Marisa and Kayla took me on a surprise clothes shopping trip. I needed it badly since most of my clothes don’t fit. We had the best time with actual success! It was nice to have personal clothing assistants along with me. We also did lunch at subway!
Then we picked up Tyler and Alayna and Bob met us from work to go see the Avengers in 3D! It was so amazingly awesome and the best birthday ever!!! I can’t wait to see the movie again. Gotta say it sure is hard to pick a favorite when all the characters are so dang awesome!
(Apparently the popcorn needs its own seatbelt)
Then Bob took me out to Coldstone to get my favorite ice cream!! My family also bought me a new wireless mouse AND they cleaned for me. Like I said…the PERFECT day!
Mother/Daughter YW Night
Marisa, Kayla, and I went to a special YW night. We played “frogger” which thank goodness didn’t require jumping over another mom cause my jeans were pretty tight.
We played a trivia game too where we answered questions about each other- kind like the newlywed game. It was so funny. One Question was…what character is your mom most like: Bella (Twilight), Hermoine (Harry Potter), Katniss (Hunger Games) or Elizabeth (Pride Prejudice). I said "Katiniss!" My girls blurt out at the same time “She THINKS she’s Katniss!” Turkeys! I could totally pull off being Katniss, right??
The Secret Drummer?
We went to Tyler’s choir concert this week and right before we arrived he said, “Oh and I am part of a solo and I play the congas for 2 pieces”. Shocked? I shouldn’t be, cause its tyler, but I was. I had NO IDEA he had been playing or even COULD play the drums! And guess what?? He was amazing! I was so proud. Bob videotaped so we will get a clip up soon. You may be surprised to know that he still sticks his tongue out the side when he concentrates. Pretty funny!
He has also been busy preparing for marching band and showchoir auditions for next year!
6 Blind Mice
The weather has been gorgeous this week!! Yesterday we spent the day getting the remainder of our garden in and fixing up the yard for the grad party. No easy task!
We got in our tomatoes, green peppers, jalapenos, and weeded where the garlic and onions are. We also mowed, pulled out the weeds in the front yard, trimmed the rose buses, etc.
Then we had to tackle the apple trees. Grass had taken over the rubber circle thingy’s and we had to rip it all out and put new mulch down. As we did the first tree, once again Bob unearthed a nest of some sort and 6 blind rat baby things started trying to run out. I say “trying” as they weren’t fast and they kept flipping over and trying to get right side up. Alayna kept watching them for a while and eventually the mom, who was a mouse, came back and picked them all up by the napes of their necks and dragged them back to the safety of the nest.
Way to Go!
Kayla won her meet at the JV match. Way to go Kayla!
Thoughts on Motherhood:
1. If Tyler’s life ever depends on listening to me and following my directions, he will be deader than a doornail!
2. If I die, the only way the kids will know I am missing is that they will see the dishes and piling up and say, “Hmmm? I wonder why those dishes aren’t doing themselves”.
Funny pics Just Because
(Alayna took this one and it cracks me up because it looks like he has a fro)

Saying Goodbye
Saying Goodbye to Macomb
We went to the Harts household for one last time. They sold their house that they built and have lived in for over 40 years! They have a new home in Arizona! They were kind enough to give us some of their extra furniture so Bob, Kayla, Alayna, and I went this weekend with a u-haul to pick it up. Marisa had State Large Group and Tyler had his band trip to Adventureland all day.
Bob showing that after all these years, he can still flip like nobody’s business!
Alayna was excited to use “boy scout juice” to burn the old piano in a huge bonfire.
Bob and I finally got a new bed. We were AMAZED how well we slept last night. We should have bought a bed like this years ago. I love my new dresser too!
I set up Tyler’s room as “Captain America” and made a “reading nook”. He loves it.
Alayna set up a tecahing office in their room- temporary since she will move up to Marisa’s in July.
Couch with fold out bed! WHoohoo!
Accolades
*Alayna received the Pride award at school this week! She also finished her AZ float and it looks amazing!

*Marisa was just accepted into the International Thespian Society and will be inducted this week.
*Tyler had an awesome solo in the jazz band concert this week.

Into The Woods for a Nephite/Lamanite Bionical Battle
Into The Woods for a Nephite/Lamanite Bionical Battle
Into The Woods
Marisa had her last high school musical this week, playing in the pit with the orchestra crew. They did one called “Into the Woods” which was a mixture of fairytale characters. Fun, different, but long. We went the 1st night and Hal and Corey came down to see it.
The 1st night was a “black out night”
The 2nd night was “classy night”
The 3rd night was “rave night” and they wore neon shirts, splattered themselves with paint, and wore glow sticks.
Today she is exhausted!!
(Obviously we were one of the 1st groups to arrive)
She was also awarded the Hyvee $1000 scholarship this week!!! So very exciting (for us AND our wallets)
Nephite/Lamanite Bionical Battle
Whatever keep them playing together, right?? Apparently there is a parachute involved??
Projects
Hal and Corey helped us knock out several projects while they were here!
1. She sewed sleeves on Marisa’s prom dress and made alaynas pants into shorts.
2. Bob, Hal, and Tyler fixed the drain in our tub, the light switch, and a lock on the cabinet.
3. They brought the archery set for the kids and they have been out practicing their “skills”.
4. They did a wonderful science presentation on friction for Alaynas class.
I tried lots of new recipes this week. My pink grapefruit cake tasted yummy but fell apart and looked like cake goo. But it’s the taste that counts right?
