Kayla wanted to get out a few days before the wedding to get some time with Brandon, get the marriage license, and finish any odds and ends. She didn’t want to take the train alone so Alayna was going to go with her. The train goes from Mount Pleasant, Iowa to Salt Lake City in 30 hours. Bob had originally told me that Mount Pleasant was only 30 minutes away. Then later in other discussions I wasn’t privy too, they said it was 45 minutes. We left early and got snacks at Walmart. That’s when, as Bob was putting the destination into Google maps, he realized that it was more than an hour away and we were late. I will admit I was very unpleasant and may have done some major yelling. We booked it. When we were almost there when we took a wrong turn. We saw the train and parked. The girls and Bob ran to find an office. No office. We saw a guy with the Amtrak jacket on. Bob ran to tell him about the girls right as the horn went off and the train started to move. The guy frantically called into his walkie, but it was too late and we watched the train fly out of sight. Grrrr. The guy was super nice and reschedule the girls to go the next night instead. I was NOT amused. We did take the girls out to Steak and Shake though. They did head out safely on the train the next night.
They went with Brandon and Jared to see the new Provo Tabernacle Temple Open House.
On this day apparently Alayna wasn’t feeling well. We think she picked up the stomach virus that my brothers kids had a week or so before. She threw up on the BYU campus and in poor Brandon’s car!
We had to leave earlier than planned as this huge storm was coming, and hysterically named Kayla. Very fitting. It was coming fast and we knew we had to get out as soon as possible. Packing the car was tricky. There was so much wedding stuff. We shoved Tyler into this tiny spot and he said, “Oh my gosh I am stuffed into a tiny square for 20 hours???” Little did he know it would be a lot longer than that!.
We got to our 1st hotel in Lincoln and were ready to crash. It had been a long work day, then 5 hours of travel. Poor Tyler, his little sofabed was hilarious! Notice the dip at the end.
We woke up to quite a surprise….booo for Winter Storm Kayla…
